Coming Out of the Pandemic…Joyfully?

March 26, 2022

I attended Men’s Morning of Spirituality for the Memphis Diocese on Saturday. We have had a three-year hiatus from MMOS; the pandemic held us back in 2020 and 2021.

Today marked our return. We had less than 500 brothers in attendance. But we had 500 brothers in attendance! And the Holy Spirit was present!

The sense of relief at being able to gather again was palpable. I haven’t been in a room that large, with that many people, (almost) all with their faces visible, since the beginning of March 2020! And it was good to gather in the name of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

We have got to get back to doing things together, brothers and sisters. We were not made to do this, this life thing, alone. And Zoom/Teams/WebEx is a poor substitute for community (taking nothing at all away from those who led in keeping us together during the Dark Days of the pandemic).

Don’t remain alone. Come back. Come to church. Come to the fish fries (there are two left!). Heck, visit your church sanctuary, and sit with the Blessed Sacrament.

Whatever you so, though: Find people. Be with people. And talk about Jesus, even if it’s in questions.

And work on finding Joy. Not “your bliss”. Find Joy. The Joy of the Risen Lord. The Joy of discovering and owning that you are a beloved daughter, a beloved son, of a Father who loves you enough to die for you.

Cuz you are.
